2011 NCAA Basketball: Mountaineers defeat Tigers

The NCAA Basketball tournament 64-field team began play today and 16 will be played today and the remainder of the 32 first round games will be played tomorrow. Games scheduled for today as per bracket: 8 games in the Southeast region, 4 games in the West region, 2 games in the East region, and 2 games in the Southwest region.

West Virginia is the first team advancing to the March Madness bracket’s round of 32 as the Mountaineers defeated the Tigers, 84-76. No.12 Clemson were leading this game the whole way but WVU went on a 9-0 run to close out the half, tying the contest at 40-all at halftime. In the second half, the game was all Mountaineers as Clemson ran out of gas with about four minutes to go.

Darryl Bryant and Kevin Jones led West Virginia, scoring with19 and 17 points respectively. For the Clemson, Andre Young led the way, dropping 22 points along with 3 other Tigers in double-digit scoring.

West Virginia will play Kentucky or Princeton next in the East bracket.
